Restrict Registration?
In configuration I see where it is possible to ban access by IP address, but this blocks access for EVERYONE within the specified IP range. This means that a few bogus registrations from class A IP address 86.*.*.* causes me to ban that entire IP range.
Unfortunately, VB's design blocks even "legitimate" users from reading forum content. In addition to the 'User Banning Options' it would have been nice to have a 'Restrict Registration' function that works the same way. That way everyone could read content, but they couldn't register to post. It appears I will have to remove the bulk of my banned users and switch off 'Allow New User Registrations" in order to let everyone read my forum content. This also presents a problem in that I will have to somehow moderate legitimate registrations, which I have a plan for. This creates extra work for me, and delays for 'real' posters in getting their message posted. ADMIN: Please move this to feature requests if you feel that is where it should be. |

You don't need to ban entire ranges, you can also ban specific individual IP addresses.
PS Why do you use IP bans at all? In which cases? |
