Import datafeeds (data feeds) into forum
I'm curious as to whether anyone has written a script that would import a datafeed into vb and create a new thread for each line of the feed?
Here is the premise: A datafeed is (in effect) an excel spreadsheet listing one item per line. On each line, are various columns, including item number, description, category, sub-category, price, link to image, etc., etc. I want to take the data feed and import into a clean version of vb with no posts. I want to create a new thread for every line (ie: every product id) in the feed; and I want the item number from the feed to be the Subject of the new thread (where the thread would be created under the correct forum). Forum and sub-forum would equal category and sub-category in the feed. And finally, the ability to import updated data feed versions without losing threads. For those of you who are asking themselves "WHY" I would want to do this: For this example, imagine a datafeed from a store selling electronics. Once imported into vb, there is one product per thread; is fully searchable; and allows for comments from visitors, additional images etc on each product page. With proper SEO, the entire vb becomes a indexed store with new, updated "pages". Comments? Or does anyone have knowledge of a script? Thankyou |
