Expert Help - Difficult Image Problem
Hello,
Alright this is my final project of my website, that I think "I" have to do aside from a coding project that we are hiring out. This one is very difficult though and I really need some expert advice, answers, or opinions on how to do this. So here we go: I want to put an Angel Wing in my Postbit area as a background image. This part of the project is easy, and we've already accomplished this, for reference please view our site and check any thread on the Test Style. Or here is a current example of what it looks like: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...n_666/curr.jpg For those who view the forum and threads directly you'll notice the centering is off with the member ranks and it needs to be fixed. Anyways, the current problem is that the User Title and User Rank Images we moved above the Wing image on the right side, are not that visible. So what I'd like to do is go ahead and glow them or give them an Outer Glow in Photoshop terms. Such as this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3..._666/hmm-1.jpg As you can see the ranks and the title are now certainly more visible. ----------------------------------------------------- The first logical thought is use CSS styling to add a glow to the text, and to the ranks, however that will ONLY work in Internet Explorer. Therefore Unacceptable ----------------------------------------------------- Ok now the next idea I had was I could lighten the wing, therefore making the text/images stand out better. However I don't like this idea, and the glow just looks better ---maybe more mystical ---maybe more fancy ---maybe more divine like So this idea is Abandoned ----------------------------------------------------- So finally I concluded that I can make the text and just take the stars/crosses into photoshop add the glow, and basically make that the user rank. Then just put it on top of the wing. This is the best idea, I believe and it will work. Basically it will look like this, with a transparent BG instead of the Red. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...6/lookcopy.jpg Alright here is the problem though, and it might be as simple as I'm not understanding how the Admin Permissions work, but let me explain. ----------------------------------------------------- Our site uses 30 different User Titles for the 30 different Staff Accounts. If I made the User Rank Images, both the User Title and the User Rank as they are now into one, it will work no problem for all of the members of the board. EXCEPT the staff members. SINCE of course the User Rank system organizes it's ranks based upon your Usergroup. So the solution that seems easy is make 30 individual Usergroups, and make sure there permissions are correct, and they basically are a mod, s-mod, or administrator with just a different name for there usergroup, they should have all there powers still, and this way I can give them there own unique title, in the User Rank graphic I am making for them. The problem I have is the 3 Super Admin Accounts - the three owners of the website. I don't even know if I have an issue here or not. But let's say I made 3 usergroups, gave them admin permissions, and that way I solve there User Rank Image problem, but will they still have the same Powers as a Super Admin, including ability to run Query's and access the Administrator Permissions of others, SINCE they are still listed by user ID number in the config.php file? Or since I'm making a custom usergroup - thats basically a duplicate of the administrator usergroup with a new title, would they actually lose there powers? If the answer is they will keep there powers, I have my solution to this. Sidenote Question - could I make my own usergroup as Member and yet have my User ID in the config.php file therefore still allowing me access to all the functions of the admin cp? If they lose there powers, I'd love to know if anyone has any ideas, assuming I cannot give them generic titles such as Moderator Admin SuperModerator (thats not a solution). Thank you x 1000 if you can answer my questions or give me advice on this. Sincerely, Legion of Angels |

first - I think a lighter image would be the better option
it's kinda confusing when you have too many contrasting elements .. over time you will end up removing it NOTE: I can see why you may not want to use a lighter image on some of those styles. second - about the admin-config question .. you can always edit the administrative permissions via Administrator Permissions Manager |

Yeah as you can see with some of our lighter styles the wing if lightened would just blend in too much. In regards to the admin config question that really is where I'm going with this. As I think the glow effect will look really good for all the users, both staff and members. My question and I just want to clarify here in case you have already answered it is that if I make a custom usergroup with Admin-like powers, will the members I put in that usergroup still be "Super Admins" if there ID numbers are the in the config.php? Or will they be ONLY this new "admin-like" usergroup, and lose there Super Admin powers? |
