I think I'm being hacked right now! Help!
I've had six "guests" with the same IP browsing my board all day and all night...my site is tiny, just 60 local members and rarely a guest other than a spider here and there in most cases.
Every time I refresh to see where the "guests" are, they are viewing a different forum, like every few seconds. My forums are all visible, but all threads are private. Is there anything I can do? I've contacted my host to let them know. I created a "banned" user account with that IP and officially banned them. I turned my board off. They are still there! Please help! |

You're not being hacked. If you look in "Who's Online" you should see a little image next to where they are. It will say "Viewing Error Message" or something along those lines. Banning them is a bit of an over reaction as they could be just looking around and not necessarily attempting to exploit your forum.

Thank you for responding...there was no red "stop sign" next to their IP's, that was part of what concerned me. Once I closed the board, the silver "lock" (viewing forum closed message) appeared, however.
I could see one or even two guests with the same IP address, but six? And on all day and night, roving from one forum to another every few seconds, when there was nothing to read except the name of the forum? They are gone for now, and somehow another guest IP is trying to register even though the same silver lock is showing up next to their IP. It just feels fishy, yk? |

If you haven't updated your spiders xml for a while, chances are they are just spiders and nothing more.

Hmm..I didn't know there was a spiders xml to update, thanks for the tip!
I am still suspicious, though...when I googled the other IP that has been hanging on all day/night, it was listed with warnings for oversize chunk encoding, which several sites grouped with "malicious" Internet activity. --------------- Added [DATE]1212390634[/DATE] at [TIME]1212390634[/TIME] --------------- Quote:
