Why would someone using IE6 need to upgrade? Upgrade to what?

Ahh you mean a downgrade.

PS Not sure what the reason is that you want to do this. But if i would visit a site that has the nerves to go tell me what is good for me, then that will probably be my last visit. If i want to use IE then that is my choice and i would not like to be bothered all the time by Admin Spam.

Or to IE7
Marco, I understand perfectly well what you mean by that, if I was in the same position I would think the same way, however, you forgot that I probably have my reasons, the users this board/site is designed and thinked needs to upgrade for some technical, security and business issues, most of them aren't advanced users like you and they don't know how to upgrade anything, the idea is to make the company to sell more upgrade packs, new computers and get new customers.

But of course it's also designed to advanced members like you, and we have a special treat for them, even if they use IE6.

Hope you understand now.

I don't want to start a flame war here, but to iterate on what was stated above, beyond security issues, there is practical uses as well for not using Internet Explorer for the reason that Microsoft simply cannot provide a functional browser, simply put. I have been coding for many years, and the only issues that I have ever run into have been as a result of this browser. Don't take my word for it though, go to any development forum and see where the problems originate from, I can guarantee you over 90% of all problems are because Internet Exploder cannot render a page properly.

@Kanustep

I started my PS with "Not sure what the reason is that you want to do this." My response was general and ofcourse you can have good reasons to do so. I just made the remark as i also see a lot of sites doing such a thing without any good reasons and without thinking it might also drive members away.

I don't know whether I have maybe misunderstood you, so correct me if I'm wrong, but driving sales by making users think they are using software which no longer works is hardly morally correct. Users can quite happily just upgrade their Internet Explorer for free or continue using it. Yes there are problems with it but they can be catered for. It doesn't seem right that you should be on using users that don't know much about computers and try to eek more money out of them.

P.S. Yes I know I should probably be helping you but I'd rather know I'm helping for a good reason. Also note the above represents my personal opinion only.
