I am about to change my phpbb forum over to a vbulletin and will be on the same server. What do you think would be the easiest way to do this. I am guessing i could just make a new directory and put all of the information in there and get everything like i want it before backing up the database and moving all of that information over. Is that what you would do?

You cant just "move" it over, you need to use impex to import the phpbb to the vbulletin install, please refer to the vbulletin documentation.
Basically: 1. backup live db 2. create new db & import the live db backup to it. 3. create new db for vbulletin and install vbulletin, install impex & upload the needed files for impex. 4. edit the config file for impex and input the correct info, the source db will be the backup phpbb db you created, the target will be the new vb databse u installed. 5. in the admincp click on the impex link and run the importer Leave you phpbb forum closed until the import is done so no new posts etc happen while you convert. |

You might want to create a test site and try this out first before you go and do this to the 'live' site.

Yes, always try on a test site first. However, if you're having trouble, then you can either ask the vB team -- or hire someone here. I assure you, however, it's very easy to do.
