'member info' displaying fields depending on viewed users choice

Hello,

I would like to add extra fields to my registration page.. Ok, I figured this out.

So if a new user goes to register at my forums, they have some optional fields they can fill in on the registration page.

Once they have registered, if some one else goes to view their member info.. it displays these extra fields...

How would I go about doing this?

Now, when a new member registers, one of the extra fields is an option to make the extra fields private or public.

So for example, I am John, I sign up with the extra fields, and I choose to make my extra fields private.

Now I am Jenny, I am a member too.. I go to view Johns profile/member info, it shows the basic stuff, but not the extra fields because John choose them to be private.. but if he choose public, then Jenny would be able to see the extra fields..

Is this possible? Does it require much time to achieve this? I don't think it is a big task, just a condition based on the field private/public option.

For default vBulletin, there is no option for users to decide displaying or not the extra profile fields. First of all, to make a field private or public, there has to be a column in the profile field table. Second of all, if the user sets the fields private or public while registering or editing the profile, there must be an update for the field. Third of all, while viewing a member's profile, it has to check if the fields are public or private to return true or false. Then in the template, you should set your template condition like <if condition="fieldispublic">show the fields</if>.

So, what do you think now? Is it just a condition based on the field private/public option? At the end, yes.

But, you can also make the profile field private and set "Can View Private Custom Fields" to No for some usergroups.
