Default Making the Switch

For several years I've been using phpBB on my website and I can't stand it anymore. With that said I've been doing some research trying to find the best message board system for my website and this one comes up time and time again, so here I am. Some things I need to know before purchasing if you'd be so kind to help me.

1. vBulletin.org....are you using just the vbulletin forums here or is this similar to a portal like phpnuke. I saw a site using vbadvanced that appeared similar to this one?

2. I site I regularly frequent uses vbadvanced and has features such as a chatroom and arcade, is that available on vbulletin?

3. Many of the vbulletin layouts I've seen are full screen width, it's important that I have a layout such as this one with a fixed width, are those available and where?

4. I'm having difficulty distinguishing the difference between the 160.00 owned liscence and the 85.00 leased liscence....my understanding is that for the owned liscence you pay an initial cost of 160.00 then 30.00 per year thereafter for upgrades and the leased license you pay 85.00 for the initial cost and 85.00 each year thereafter. Is this correct?

I know these are a lot of questions and I really appreciate any answers you can provide.

Thank you!!!

Catherine

1. We are using a custom coded portal. vbAdvanced provides the same functionality.
2. Yes.
3. Those are settings that can be adjusted via the Admin Control Panel.
4. For a leased license, you are only allowed to run vBulletin for a year, after that, you must renew your license or remove vBulletin from your server. For an owned license, you are allowed to run vBulletin indefinitely, but after one year, your support period expires, meaning that you will not be able to download any new versions of vBulletin. If you would like to keep updates, it is $30 each year thereafter.

Just 1 addition to the description of the Owned license. Support never expires and you are allowed to use vBulletin as long as you want and receive support for it. Only new versions of vBulletin that where released after the license expired can not be downloaded, unless you purchase the $30 renewal for 1 year. You can purchase a renewal at any time you want.
