Is There A Way To Stream MP3 Attachments In vBulletin?
Hello,
I run a music recording site. A popular board is the "Recoriding Reviews" section where an engineer or artist will upload their songs and then we bash the crap out of them and give suggestions. I've had a few compliants that it takes 30-60seconds to download the attachments and therefore my users are reviewing less music. Is there a way to setup attached mp3s to play back more or less instantly? Brandon |

If the user has Quicktime installed it should play directly in the browser.

It seems that attachments act a little bit differently. While on many sites I can click on an mp3 and it start playing pretty much immediately, with mp3 attachments, the song won't big playing until the entire song is downloaded even if I select the "open" option.
I don't have Quicktime and I really can't expect all my users to have quick time either. There has to be a way to make this work with media player or some kind of streaming player in vBulletin. Brandon |

You could create a mod that when an attachment is an mp3, it will have a tiny, inline flash-based mp3 player and the download link available. That way someone can just hit play, or they can download the song. Something like this:

Search XSPF Player on Google, I think that is what you are looking for. It will require some modifications for vBulletin of course though.

What I posted was a mock-up. It would need to be developed.

Oh, well it would be a good hack.

That looks like a great idea.
Does anyone know why an mp3 attachment won't play immediately but a link to http://www.domain.com/whatever.mp3 will play immediately? My guts says it MAY be faster to change the code so that the mp3 starts playing immediately in Media Player vs creating a new media player. Then again, the flash media player thingy looks to be a great option. hmmm Brandon |
