Yes. In your admincp, go to Vbulletin Options. There is a section there for user banning.

Sometimes this just gets people even more pissed off when you ip band them, or ban them in general.

That is why they keep signing up.

Instead of killing off the user, use the "meserable user" hack; it's much more effective, and they will just suffer a horrible forum experience

Miserable users is a great hack. An even better idea would be to find a way to ban the MAC ID of their modem.

I can't believe that in the 21st century site owners are still unable to ban someone from their servers. There should be a law requiring ISP's to intentionally show those MAC ID's to the web servers. It would spell the end for every troll in existence.

Although the idea of giving away those IDs is good, there is a problem with this. What about multiple people with forum accounts at one forum in the same household? Because by banning their modem MAC ID or whatever, you would basically ban everyone using that house's computer connection.

The other problem is that of networks, as it would seriously screw up school/college/university/workplace networks, where the students/staff etc use various computers depending on a few factors, and if more than one person uses on computer, this idea of banning would make them think THEIR account has been banned. Plus, all the troll would need to do is use a different computer in that network.

True enough. However, a way to ban anonymous proxy servers *should* be possible. For god's sake, people, the web was built by open source programmers. The very same people who built Apache, php and everything else the web runs off of. Don't tell me that no one had the foresight to realize that they might actually want a way to ban someone someday. As far as banning an entire household, I have no issue with that whatsoever. If the son is acting a fool on a server the father also uses then this would be an incentive for him to behave because he would get dad banned too. It's called accountability and no one on the web seems to have any.

Hopefully, one day, the law will recognize web servers as the "virtual property" of the owner and enact "No Trespassing" laws which would provide punishment for those who violate bans, etc. Anonymity has destroyed the web.
