Default Not sure if you REALLY want to know my opinion!

Well anyway here goes,

I have found so many cool mods here, few of which work which is SO sad!!!!
One would think that as we have to PAY for VB that there would be some sort of SERVICE, never mind that VB advertise unsurpassed service!!

For example, I run a WoW and a Lineage free server. Any custom mods are CHECKED by the Devs first and then made available to download in the forums!!!Some are even INCLUDED in the core files!! Why cant VB do the same I would like to know? This is what I would call "GOOD SERVICE"!!

Also, when you ASK for SERVICE from VB, you get zip!!Even if you are prepared to PAY for it!! (happened to me)

I have loaded VB 3.6.4 about 8 times now, and each mod or skin I add, messes it up totally!
In my opinion, 3.4 was the best to date, skins worked, mods worked and cool! Never mind that I just lost 2500 member accounts through it all, as there is no facility to re-install the 3.4 DB to the 3.6 from the CP or any other one for that matter!! Even impex had errors!!

Examples: Shoutbox - Replace x in the y template with z etc...well x does not exist!!! This worked well on 3.4!
Googlemaps - You need to be a rocket scientist to get that one working!!
Zoints - Well only partly works!!
And so the list goes on and on and on!!

So my suggestion to VB is: CHECK the mods for compatibility first, then allow them to be added to your forum!!

Whether the mods work or not doesn't matter (Most do).. Jelsoft doesn't promise support for the Mods you find here at VB.org as the Mods here are made by independent coders. If you purchase VB and don't mod it I'm sure it works great, and if doesn't the guys over at vbulletin.com will help you get it working.

Once you come here and start HACKING what you bought from them, thats on you and it's up to you to get the support you need from the authors of the mods (HACKS) you install.

There is no such thing as vb 3.4 so I don't know what you are referring to there.

All modifications here are unofficial, provided free of charge by other vbulletin owners. To say only few work is just nonsense IMO, there are very few that don't work (I can only think of 1 or 2 I have seen released recently that simply didn't work).

I can tell you with 100% certainty that we will not check every single modification released here, that would take up large amounts of time that the staff here do not have (we are not Jelsoft employees, we are unpaid volunteers).

If all the mods you try aren't working then you are either extremely unlucky or doing something wrong.

If you need service with an official vbulletin product then the vBulletin Support Team will help you. If it's not an official product; they are under no obligation to help you, the author of the mod is there for that.

I think a better feedback system and better beta and bug tracking tools will help the community police itself. I know that has been talk about before, and probably is still in the works, I'm just mentioning it here because it seems relevant.

Almost without exception people who request service in the forum her on the org and don't get help aren't willing to pay a reasonable price for it. They want to pay $10 or $20 for something that will take many hours or days to do. I cut the best deals I can when I do custom work, because I know people can't afford to pay me $60 an hour (which is what I make if I get a real job), but still, it's just not cheap.

This site is incredible, plain and simple, the amazing modifications and support is why i chose vBulletin over phpbb and IPB...so I have no idea why you have such problems...

As already mentioned by some others, i find it difficult to believe that only a few work, if you install modifications that where deisgned for the vBulletin version that you are using.

With the license you pay for the software developed and maintained by Jelsoft (ie. vBulletin). You also get free professional support for the software that you purchased with your license for the duration of your license. There are no additional charges to receive support for our software.

Currently the only additional services that are charged for are:
- Professional Installation Service
- Professional Upgrade Service
- Additional Phone Support

There are many that offer the modifications they written for free here on vBulletin.org. These modifications are not written by Jelsoft. Jelsoft also can not check each modification and the volunteer vBulletin.org staff also can not do this.

Also the vBulletin.org community is a Member to Member support community. This means that it will be a community effort to assist other members when possible

See above. Support for our product (ie. vBulletin) is never charged for, and most customers seem to be satisfied with the level of official support they receive on vBulletin.com Forums or through the Support Ticket system.

A style that is designed for the version of vBulletin that you are running should not mess up your board. We however always do recommend that you test the installation of a new style or product on a testboard before isnstalling it on your production board. Jelsoft has not control over third party software/styles that you want to install on your board.

As mentioned before, there is no version 3.4.

I don't see many situations where something will make you loose member accounts. Even if there are problems then support will often be able to assist you in solving it. I don't know what you have tried importing with ImpEx, but again even if there are issues when running ImpEx, official support will in most cases be able to assist you. If you have had such an issue where you did not receive support, please sent me the Support Ticket id in a PM and i will look into it.

vBulletin is the best forum software ever.. It has got the best system going I have seen.

If you upgrade your forum without making a backup and screw it up, thats your fault. On my forum everyday at 3am it does a daily database backup. Every 3days I download them and every week I generate a full file backup and download that.

I have xammp installed and every 2weeks I update it so its in syncronisation with my online forum so i can do all testing.

When I have ever had a problem vB have always been more than happy to help.

Let's not all just negate chuckrobbie's experience. Whatever the cause it sounds like he's had a pretty rough time of it. In the spirit of open community support lets try and figure out what is going wrong and help get him on track. Are you up for that Chuck?
