Txt Message Notification on New Reply?
I don't believe this exists. I'm actually surprised that no one has done it yet with all the popular networking sites doing it.

This is actually rather easy to accomplish...
Most cell phone providers offer text-messaging through emails. For example, if you have a verizon phone with the number 555-234-1111, you can be text messaged at 555-234-1111@vtext.com. So adding a text-messaging option to a forum could really be as simple as telling your users to enter in that information as their email address, if they wish to recieve text-message notification. However, if you wanted to make it separate from the email field, you would just need to duplicate the email and opt-in forms, and add another mail-check upon the posting of a reply. This is probably what you want, and maybe I will make it if I have some time, but it is a rather menial modification... |

Right, that's pretty much what I figured with the e-mail to phone part of it.
I think to make the hack complete, it would have to have a separate template for the message to send to a phone. You wouldn't want the actual response of the post sent to a phone. It would have to be under 160 characters for one txt. The same with PM's. Also, a selection option in the type of subscription. "Notify by txt message" and "Notify by txt and email" or something like that. |

I'd be interested in such a hack myself.

Someone should be able to just make the PM's cut off at 160 characters for those that run longer. Wish I knew how to do this. Help SMART PEOPLE!
