links on top of header?

Im trying to add some text links to the top of the header ... i want them as they are there but inline with the rest of the page instead of hanging over.

I can do this by moving the highlighted section below in my header under <div class="side_borders"> but then I get a silly border line round the links ?

what do I need to do to push the links to be inline ?
