Is it possible to connect vbulletin and phpbb2 database together?
Is it possible to connect vbulletin and phpbb2 database together, so they can share the same members that have registered and news ones that register....

Are you talking about running both forums at the same time, from the same user database, or do you want to port your phpbb members into vB?
If it's the first - no idea... but if it's the second, I'm sure there is an import tool you can download from vB.com |

The first....well basically kinda what ur saying, but except the second forum wont have any posting done to it, its for a different purpose...

In that case, I have no idea, sorry... I'm sure you have your reasons for wanting to run two diffrent forums from the same database, but I can't think why you would want to...

I will give an example of why a person would want to do it...
I have a website that is mostly "mature" members (say 55+ demographic) and I have a few members that like to push the envelope and post things that offend the rest of my members... I have consdered buying a second vBulletin license that wouls share the member database but when a few members push the issue I can simply tell them to take their talk to "the other site" and if people want to see the stuff they can but guests and those that do not want to see it will not... Now, I have private forums and th elike but there is only so many ways I can do this on a single forum... So, I have been considering doing just what is described here... The biggest hurdle with going this is addressing the passwords... I can see the users table being transfered from the vBulleting database over to a phpBB database via a couple CRON scripts but changing the password to a phpBB friendly form might be another matter! I may need to look at this when I get time as for what I want to do, buying a second vB license is an expensive way for me to go to give a few trouble makers a place to throw mud... |

You can use the same user table for both forums, but im not quite sure if you can do that because of Vb's license agreement.
Either way it doesnt sound logic for me, because if any user from the first site can log in, and see content that wont aprove as you say... why would dont you ban their access to the new board? The better choice would be adding a private section under your actual vb board so only a few usergroups can access that section and you keep control of everything under only one admincp. Besides, phpbb is like going back dont you think? |

phpp is a step backwards.... but it is free... As for using the users table for another use, I fail to see how the database is copyrighted by vB and it would be real easy to write a schell script to copy the usertable over to a new database....
I still say the biggest hurdle is the passwords.... As for why... say you have a few X-rated members on a PG content website.... you get the idea and even with pivate groups there are things I don't want associated with my site in anyway or form.... |
