I'm looking to have sub-communities within my greater community.
I need to be able to assign a member "administror" permissions to create boards for that community only. So theoretically, I'd create a category called "sub community 1"..and assign a user administrator permissions to to create new categories and forums under this "sub community" only. Is this possible? What the exact process to doing this if it is. Also.. Is there a way to allow registering members (or existing ones) to have a selection of user groups from which to choose from |

There used to be a modification back in vbulletin 3.0 that did just that. However, Jelsoft determined that it was in conflict with vbulletin's licensing agreement and it was removed and banned from use for all license holders.
There can only be one instance of vbulletin per license... that means one community, not a conglomeration of independently administrated sub-communities. Sorry. |

If I want to create little sub communities within a board software that I've purchased then this should not be an issue. It is still "one instance" of Vbulletin. It's a simple naming convention...calling it sub community 1, sub community2, etc. I simply wanted the ability to allow designated administrators the ability to be able to create new forums under these designated categories (i.e. sub community 1). |

I believe that your initial post has been misunderstood, or at least I'm misunderstanding.
From what I can tell, you basically wish for those who are administrators to have the ability to add new forums (under a category) but restricted to whatever categories you stipulate (i.e. the ones that they are responsible for). As such, you are basically looking for a modification for Administrator permissions. I do not believe that there is anything at present to allow you to do this, but I may well be wrong. It might be easier somehow to allow this based on "Forum Moderator" status of a category - but that again is just an assumption on my part and it may be just as easy doing it through other means. May wish to wait for somebody with greater coding knowledge to assist you somehow ![]() Kind Regards JayJ |

Okay, this is complicated but you can do it with your current Access Masks...
Create Different User Groups with the particular Administrator powers that you want them to have over each of their groups, then assign each of the users to the group that you want them to be able to administer. After that you go to Forums & Moderators, Forum Permissions, Then set it so each Group has access to those powers only for the forum that you want them to administer... So... 1. You create a new Usergroup for Each forum you want to Administer this way... 2. You give them the powers you want them to have once assigned... 3. You create access masks to deny them that access to the other forums... (give post only etc permissions)... 4. You assign the users to the groups... They then can administer each of the Forums that you want them to, but cannot to the others.. I just tested... In the Admin permissions they can either add or delete from all forums, or not. There is no in between. They may not be able to delete a post from another forum, but it seems that they can always add a new Forum... *sigh* you can get close, but not perfectly there. Is it that you don't trust the administrators to keep to their own forums? |

Yes, that would be the case unfortunately.
I thought I might give this a go of trying to get something that functions at such, but I do not wish to make any false promises to whether I can complete such a modification, but I will strive to do so nonetheless whilst I can. |
