VERY WEIRD thing happend to the posting system

hello everyone, i have vb 3.5.1

one day i went to my forum and wanted to post a thread, but i ran into a problem, when i click on post new theard, that page works but the content and functions on that page don't work they are jsut sitting images, for example the smiles when they are normaly working you click on one and it will get put into the text box, but with my problem it does nothing its just a image on a page.
this is also true for the bold underline change font color text size ect.

but thats not it for my problem, anytime i try to post something it will tell me
The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters. this will come up no matter what amount of text there is weather i have less than 10 or if i have over 10, thus not alllowing me to post a thread cuz it gives that error everytime.

i also noticed when viewing threads that where already made before the probelm*or just any thread for that matter*, on the quick reply box it used to say this message about pressing a button then the message will go away and your able to post a quick reply, but now all that the box says undefined, then i press the button i remembered, and it will go away then im set to do a quick reply however the toolbar for that also does not work neither does the edit-->fast mode. but im able to post a quick reply fine with no trouble from the 10 characters limit set.
i have checked my templates and the red moded ones had nothing to do with the posting
could it be a .php server file from the forum dir?

Try upgrading to vBulletin 3.5.4 and using the default style.

i don't know if i can do the upgrade as i have a lot of things modded in my forum now

but i did try to use the default style and that did the same problem

but the default does the same thing and i can't update my forum will not run right

what are the php files that pretain to myy problem i could try to replace them
