Default Clean house.

I just took over this forum and... it is a mess!
FTP looks like this: httpdocs/forum/images/images.......
Each level has the same files plus some others. However, the forum seems to be installed in the last "images" folder!!!
If you modify things (icons, smiles, etc) in the first level (forum), nothing happens. You must modify the same files in the last "Images" folder in order to take affect. Even if you revert the templates, still VB uses the files located in the last "images" folder.

This is my questions:
-How can I move everything to the level httpdocs/forums?
-Is it possible to delete everything, down to the "forum" folder (delete all files in "forum" folder, so it would look like this: httpdocs/forum), upload VB in "forum" folder and upgrade?
-And of course, preserve my forum (mebers, posts, etc).

Sounds like what you need to do is back up your sql, delete the entire forum, run a fresh install, then unpack the sql dump again. If your forum is small you can run it all through phpmyadmin, if its large you'll need SSH access. (Repair/Optimize all the tables before backing up to prevent errors.)

As far as the images go, looks like the image paths need to be changed (go to "Styles and Templates" --> "Style Manager") in your style settings. Your image paths are pointing to images/images/etc instead of lets say images/buttons for some reason.

Thanks TMXS.
All together it is 340MB but there is lots of crap in there. The site should only be a few MB like maybe... 20 to 40 MB.
I have about 9,000 members and about 26,000 posts.
If I do what u just said, when unpack the sql dump, the FTP is not going to look like it used to?
I don't care about saving the skins. All I want is the members and posts.

The dump has nothing to do with the ftp.

Is your ftp issue only the image folders? Or is it the whole 'forums' file that's f'd up?

The forum run OK. But working in the FTP... a big mess. Files and folders all over. Files are "borrowed" by the forum from different levels. Don't really know what is going on in there. You want to modify something that is suppossed to be ...here, but it is 2 levels back in another folder. Well, a mess. Tried to clean it up but it is imposible. I may be able to get rid of some files, but the folders must stay there as files are borrowed from different levels, if u know what I mean.

But is it just the image files? Or the php files too? (although I don't see how that's possible)

Did you log into your admincp and look for the file paths? To make sure they're pointing to the right place?

Because of your forum's size you'll need to go through SSH to unpack it. If you've never done that before it'll be a bit difficult to get to where you need to be even with step by step instructions. You always have the option of overriding some of the folders and files, but if its as big of a mess as you say, you'll neet that clean install.

I think everything is f'd up. The file paths are like this: images/buttons, but if u replace the "buttons" folder in httpdocs/forum, nothing happens. U must replace them in httpdocs/forum/images/images/buttons. The forum ignores the first two levels. It sees the last "images" folder just as if it were the first level.
