We use flashchat, and its excellent. There are a few quirks, like if you are a OS X user, it will auto log you off after a few min.

i've got 1,500 members on my forum, and using flashchat is a problem, cuz it would slow down the server, and many times crash it, cuz it uses a lot of cpu

Way too expensive for the paid versions for what the chat room actually is, a chat room, and the free version has advertising all over it. Not worth it, I would rather pay to have the ads removed but not for what they want though.
