Second Forumhome
Hello,
I have a need for a way to create a second "forumhome" that only displays specific forums. I run reptile related sites. Some species of reptiles require more advanced care than others and as such, I want them to have a dedicated area on my site. This is how it works: Bearded Dragons (Main Category) - Community -- News -- Staff -- Blah -- Blah - Husbandry -- blah -- blah -- blah - Category -- blah -- blah I want these forums to display on a seperate page and NOT display on the main sites page. The forum "Bearded Dragons" would be a link to this second forumhome page displaying just those forums. What "if conditions" could I use to display just specific forums like this on a new page? |

If you edit the parent forum of that section and change the "Forum Is Active" flag to NO, that will prevent it from displaying on your main forum page. But it will not prevent it from working as normal if you go directly to it.
So, set that flag to OFF, then put a link somewhere on your menu, navigation block, or wherever, directly to that parent forum. You could also specify a different style for that forum, so it will even look totally different when they go there. |

Why not just use a (secondary) usergroup to hide those forums from people who you don't want it to see?

Hello,
I did as described by CongSoft. I was already implementing a custom style to the forum. The only thing I was looking to prevent was that particular forum on the main page but still having it accessible as an independant forum. I created a new "homepage" with a custom cmps page using all "copied" modules. Those users of mine that deal with bearded Dragons can now save the direct url to the "Bearded dragon" forums and then access the posting forums via that page. |
