Help me to NOT be afraid of upgrading...
hello all..
i'm currently running on 3.0.7, as i have been for some time.. i have a LOT (30-ish?) of hacks and mods installed on my forum, along with 3 styles, and vBPortal. i've been meaning/wanting to upgrade to .8 and .9, but my question is, how do i even think about doing this with all the hacks i have installed?? to those of you with a lot of hacks - how do YOU handle your upgrades?? i guess the whole process just seems a little overwhelming to me right now, and i'm wondering if there's an easier way that i'm missing.... thanks. |

I don't know but I put security above "hacks" any time.
3.0.7 has exploitable bugs in it and therefore warrant the upgrade to 3.0.9. |

If going to 3.0.9 just follow the instructions for the hacks again to do the file edits. Database and template changes don't need to be re-applied.
If going to 3.5.0 then most hacks are now plug-ins so you just import them and jobs a gud-un. Of course there are stiull some that you have to the manual way. |

There a guide in the tips and tricks forum to upgrading a hacked board. If you use a tool like beyond compare, it makes life alot easier. One thing you should start doing is noting down which files you hacked, this way you can just compare them.
