How To add images?

I was looking at a guide on here on how to do the images at the top and bottom of the forums, Which I wasnt able to do. I was able to get the corner images in ok, but it was the middle bit I wasnt able to do at all, which was a bit of a pain

Is there anyway I am able to do this that a bit easier, cause I am bored with the plain old tables
