Default forumdisplay help

Now this may seem a little wierd and I may get you confused. If so I appologise.

I am needing to get subforums to not be displayed, but in the second level only. In vb2 it was a few template mods. Now I can not see where to change this without affecting everything the way I dont want it too.

On forum home I have it set where you see the following just as everyone...

Forum1
--subforum1
--subforum2
Forum2
--subforum3

etc

Now where i go to subforum1 I would like it to show as below with the non posting forum being a subforum inside the subforum1 that does not display its subforums...

subforum1
--posting forum 1
--posting forum 2
--posting forum 3
--NONposting forum1 (with 4 posting forums that do not show unless you click)
--posting forum 4

Hope that is clear. Anyone have any idea on approching this?
Right now it shows as the following.

subforum1
--posting forum 1
--posting forum 2
--posting forum 3
--NONposting forum1
----sub forum A
----sub forum B
----sub forum C
----sub forum D
--posting forum 4

If I understand you correctly, I do not think it is possible to make a forum not show unless you click on it

But, I would make a new Usergroup, Go to the forum permissions in the AdminCP, go to the Registered Users Group settings and tell it, that they can not view this forum.

Then promote any users you want to be able to see it, to the new usergroup.

That should get what you want for the most part, though not exactly.

BTW, this is for Gamma, so if your running anything else, it may be a little different

This is for gamma, but it is not a matter of hiding or assigning a usergroup to not view it. You misunderstand what I am trying to do. I have a ton of forums a total of 413. So i have to class and subclass a lot. Doing this was easy in vb2 since i could adjust the templates to show the deeper levels as a forum instead of the category bar.

Now that I am at vb3 gamma and have applied the same/similar template changes it does not work. basically what i need is to make a level 3 or level 4 cat come up looking like a forum, but without listing those forums under it.

It should look something like this

Level 2 cat
--level 3 forum
--level 3 forum
--level 3 cat
----level 4 forum
----level 4 forum
----level 4 cat <has 8 forums that should not show until you click it to get in there.
----level 4 cat <has 8 forums that should not show until you click it to get in there.
----level 4 forum
----level 4 forum

so when i click on level 3 cat it would only show 6 forums (2cats and 4 forums)in there. Currently it is showing all the subforums or in other words it is showing 8 forums under the level 3 cats each.

Problem comes up with going into the acp and going to change the value to 2 for Depth of Forums - Forum Display. It works great until I get to deeper levels. Say I click on level 3 as described above that assigned value shows 2 levels of forums and subforums, which is not what i need. Before it was as simple as a template change now these changes do not work and only cause errors. I put the level as 1 then it messes up the other levels above it.

Suggesting that i tone down as many forums that I have is not a choice.

OK, I think I understand,

what happens when you play with the "Depth of Sub-Forums" section?
