Looking for CMS to go with vBulletin
Hi,
I've had my web site for many years however it was a static HTML one which is quite labor intensive to mainain. I had phpBB forum on it which I recently upgraded to vBulletin3. I'm looking into upgrading the rest of the web site to have a dynamically generated content under some sort of CMS which would integrate well with vB (user database etc). My web site is mostly about providing custom software and services as well as it contains various articles on graphics and programming techniques. You can see it here: http://www.oberonplace.com/ I want the upgraded site to have the following sections: - My products (have a listing of products, their descriptions, prices, manage/track downloads and possibly provide user comments etc). - see the current list: http://www.oberonplace.com/products/index.htm Some products will have a rather large sections with several pages. For example, http://www.oberonplace.com/products/...zard/index.htm. This could be done as a separate section of the web site and then just cross referenced from the product directory I can see that http://www.vbadvanced.com/products.php would be something I'm looking for (at least). - Articles (something similar to this: http://www.oberonplace.com/dtp/halftone/index.htm). One thing which is important, I need to be able to inline graphics (rather than have them attached at the end of articles). - Have a downloads section where users can share their own scripts/macros (similar to this: http://www.oberonplace.com/vba/drawmacros/index.htm). This should have categories/subcategories and different content type (macros, scripts, symbols, etc) It would be nice to have some sections have different permissions depending on users/usergroups (so I can have some content shown only to registered users, for example). I have looked at vBadvanced, vbPortal, and SubDreamer and none of them seem to meet my requirements completely. I realize that I might need to create some custom modules to do exactly what I want, but I'd like to get the "off-the-shelf" solution as close to my needs as possible to start with. Are there any mod/modules for vBa, vbPortal that you know of which would help me achieve what I want? Is there anything you guys could suggest? Thanks a lot. |

Also, from your experience, what add-ons could help me solve my other problems (product directory with descriptions, prices, download managers, etc)? In some sense, I would like the site to behave like, well, let's see..., this one: http://www.bazon.net/mishoo/ That is, the articles look like separate pages rather than posts in a forum, yet people can add comments to articles, and the articles are searchable. Of course it is important to have article index and even it would be nice to have news/upadates with RSS feeds and stuff, but all this advanced stuff can be added as a custom mod, I suppose. I just wanted basic framework to be in place to start with. |

The thing with vBadvanced is you can create pages yourself. It makes it rather simple as long as you know some html/php coding.
And as for the add-ons, there are article hacks, download hacks, etc. i would really be the wrong person to point in that direction. But you could also post over at vbadvanced's website. The guys there have been rather helpful when I had questions as with others. |

I currently use mambo: www.mamboserver.com
I am waiting for a full integration with VB and Mambo to make the site look and feel professional. |
