Was told to come here by community forum
Hi..
I just bought vB and installed it last night. I am a complete novice with all things having to do with the computer and totally unfamiliar with codes and such. Anyhow, here's the question that I asked that they couldn't answer over there. I need unregistered guests to have access to smilies. This forum is an offshoot of another one that was sold and the new owners made radical changes so everyone left. We are trying to recreate it and it will have probably in the neighborhood of 650 registered users and many times that unregistered users. Those unregistered users must have access to the smilies. This isn't an optional thing for me, as they've always had access to smilies, even now in the temporary free boards we're using. I need to know if this is possible in this program because if it's not I have to get other software and stop wasting my time trying to learn how to do things in vbulletin (currently trying to figure out how to get the avatar and name to the left of the post instead of on top!). If anyone can definitively tell me whether what I want to do is possible or not I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much! :classic: |

Hmm, what exactly do you mean with "I need unregistered guests to have access to smilies."?
If you allow them to post it should be no problem for them to also use smilies. As for the layout: vBulletion Options / Style & Language Settings / [X] Use Legacy (Vertical) Postbit Template |

Hi KirbDE
Yeah, that's what they said in the other forum, then when I gave the address to my site to show that the smilies aren't there for unreg users, they said then that they thought that unreg don't get the smilies and the text editor and for me to come here. If you'll go to http://newworldodor.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1 you'll see there's a few posts already made. The registered guests posts have smilies in them. Now, if you try to reply to a post yourself as an unreg. guest, you'll see that the smilies that are directly to the right of this box I'm typing in right now are missing, as is the text editing functions directly. See, maybe no one's noticed that since most people don't let unreg guests post..or, hopefully I'm wrong and the folks at the other forum are wrong, and there's some easy way to do it..just like there was for putting the avatars on the left..THANK you so much! Smilies do work for guests, just the controls are missing.
Can you provide me with an ACP login (via PM) to check a few things? |

k, sent it. Dunno if you tried to log in...it just occurred to me that maybe I needed to log out for you to log in..if that's the case, I've logged out.
Thank you SO much KirbyDE! I'm like so absolutely clueless about all this stuff..and in fact have deliberately kept myself ignorant about it (never a good thing :cross-eyed: )cuz I didn't want or need to learn...but guess I'll have to now. Anyhow, thanks again! |
