Default Dual login system

Hi guys.

I've just started upgrading my site and i've decided to go from a Phorum installation to vB

I had a lot of posts in my old forum, but the problem is not converting the posts.. It's that in my "old site" there was no forum verification system, there was only one custom system to hold all the users. (which, btw. had all passwords in clear text.)
I want users to register and log in on my own system, should i make a system that will copy the registration details to both databases and code the site accordingly? or try to merge the databases together (that seems very tricky because in the old system, users are unique by their emails, not by a name)

Can you guys give me some feedback on the best way to handle this? What cookies would need to be set and what would be the best way to achieve this.

I've been thinking, if i just copy the vBulletin registration form (hidden fields and such) onto my own registration page and redirect it somehow it should create two user tables right? also, as a logon procedure, setting the vB cookies shouldn't be a big deal, or is it?

Good question. Unfortunately, I'm not responding to answer it, but to add my own desparate plea for advice.

I have a totally custom forum that I wrote myself. It uses MySQL only to store membership data and I need to write a custom script to transfer accounts (don't care about threads).

As of now, my plan is similar to your's. I'm going to hack the user.php script which is called by the right hand frame loaded when you select Users->Add New User from the admin area. I'm hoping someone will stop me if there's an easier way.

Seems to be little documentation targeted to people who are familiar with PHP/SQL for this forum software.
