Forum summary or snapshot

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for a way to summarize what's going on in my forum on the site's homepage that had nothing to do with the forum.

The homepage is just regular html but I want it to show in realtime what going on in the forum section of the site.

Here is a screenshot of something I found on another site.

Any suggestions?
