For this upgrade, though, you don't have to edit the PHP files. Just run the upgrade scripts because as previously mentioned only the database is relevant.

Now I'm confused. I thought you said it would screw stuff up? I don't just want to run VB3. I need my site exactly how it is now, but with the security of VB3. I don't want VB without my 70+ hacks installed. I need all my hacks that I have now, working in VB3 or at least the latest version before 3 if 3 is going to be tons of changes.

The whole reason I never did upgrade before is because I was told that you have to compare each file and paste and copy code line by line to keep your hacks from a previous version of VB. The fact is, if it wasn't for the security concerns, I would simplyjust hack my old version more to make it feel like what I want it to. I've taken a look at the beta board running VB3 and I don't care for the design one bit.

So will I have to compare and relplace if I want all my hacks? :nervous:

You cannot use vB2 hacks for vB3. Different code, different functions, different variables.

Massivly diffrent. Anyways 99.9% of the decent hacks are there. Only ones they need to add is onlinetoday and the microstats.

So you're saying if I want to keep any of my hacks let alone the 70+ i have install I won't be able to upgrade to VB3?

And for most hacks being in VB3, sorry but I truely doubt that. I have weird hacks working together including 12 forums providing gaming news. I truely doubt VB3 could do half of what I'm doing now out of the 'box'. I'm sure it will be great, but not great enough for me to spend another year or so with VB3 to recode everything I already have.

OK, so which is the latest version of VB right now? That will most likely be what I upgrade to as long as all my hacks will work with it and then I will be done updating my VB with official updates. Any VB security fixes really should be made so they can be applied to old boards without having to update to the latest VB. I ain't forking over 30 bucks every year just for the fun of it.

Thanks for clearing this stuff up. So if I get resupported after paying 30 bucks, I will update to the latest version. There won't be any other VB releases between what's out now and VB3 right? I want the latest one before VB3 is actually released. So if another 2xx is going to come out, then I don't think I want to upgrade yet. I have enough files I'm only going to 'want' to do this once. :disappointed:

vB 2.3.0 is the latest stable version and the last vB 2 that will be released, that is compatible with your current hacks.

Thanks a bunch Erwin. Hopefully 2.3.0 is pretty hack proof. :nervous:

Maybe when VB4 comes out I will be willing to make the jump. :laugh: That or I will be making enough that I can pay one of you to do the dirty work.

The hacks that make since bsides a couple. Like they have quick reply, quote quick reply, today/yester day and a ton more in there.

Remember - Alot of your hacks can be ported over with a little code and template editing, alot may become irrelevant, and some may be re-released by the Hack authors for vB3
