I need to get rid of the blue part of the posts (either side of the table and at the top where newx thread link is.

See the blue either side? Well i want that gone and i want the background image to be shown

Its the forum background, set it as a clear gif.

Save a blank gif 1x1 in size - then just use it as an <img src and you can set the height and weight.
