2 Questions about legal running of board...
Firstly, as some of you'll know already. I already own VB.
What I want to know is, am I allowed to setup a second board to use the SAME database - but leave it unhacked? I'd like to give the users the option of using a standard forum as well as the 'bells and whistles' version? Second question: When VB3 is released... As I understand it, it is definately legal to have a second copy of VB installed for testing, but I'm wondering, will VB3 be too different to do this? Because if the DB for VB3 is too different and makes too many changed to the DB, it'll screw up me public installation won't it? Thanks for any answers you can give on both questions. Tim |

No I mean as a full-time backup forum. In that sometimes when I alter the code I do it wrong (a lot of the time infact), so without uploading the file I put in backup, I just have another go at editing it. Sometimes this causes a fair bit of downtime.
I only really do it when it's quiet, so question 1 isn't really a big question, and I can do it with a new style set (but obviously when I screw up a file, it still screws too). But question 2 I'm more puzzled about? |

Hmmm...
I didnt know about the "testing" board... As for vB3 - I do hope we will be allowed to have an online testing forum...That way I can see what it is like, and have a chance to fiddle and play with it, before either adding it or removing it to my main site... Satan |

Q2, I have no reason to see why Jelsoft would stop people having a test board that isn't accesable by the public when vB3 is out, and at the end of the day there isn't much they can do to stop you.
Q1, I'd have thought no, but I'd be interested in knowing this aswell. If you are using the same server and the same DB then they may allow it. Your better off contacting sales@vbulletin.com |
