Setting up server for vB3/PHP 7

I'm setting up a server for the new version of vB 3 so it will run on PHP 7 as Paul's post mentions. One question: what is the best/latest version of MySQL? 5.7.14 right?

So, when I yum the new server, it installs version 5.1.73

Why is that?

You are using an old repository I would guess.

MySQL 5.7.x is the latest, tho I dont use it, mine are on 5.5.x (and vbo is on 5.6.x as its mostly using innodb now, and that was required for fulltext search).

Ah thanks, Paul, I think I understand. The repository from which my server has access to the php and MySQL is associated with my server's datacenter? So, I will try and upgrade the php and MySQL from Source forge or someplace.

If you use cPanel or just CentOS and want to upgrade to lastest version of Mysql or PHP,

I also just upgrade my PHP to PHP7 and it improved pretty performance for my hosting server and loading speed for web pages on my forum. I would suggest you should have a try to see how it works and how it will help your forums.

I like use ius rpm package. you can yum install it.
