Default Tom Clancy books

I'm reading, or actually just finished (more over, reviewing), Patriot Games by Tom Clancy. His books are excellent, his writing style is so unique from any other author. Anybody else like his books (not the games)?

His books are great. Unfortunately, can't say the same for the books that he endorses - you know, the Net Force and other similar ones, which are written by other people but has his name prominently displayed on the top.

The Sum of All Fears is coming out soon - starring Ben Affleck as Jack Ryan. That will be good.

Ah yes, sounds very good. But wait, I've heard of his book--The Sum of All Fears, but Jack Ryan?? He is the main character in that book also?? Is it a sequel to Patriot Games?

The "Tom Clancy Presents:" books are not written by him. As such they are not as well-written, and most of the time have ridiculous plotlines and boring stories. For example, the "Op-Center" series is written by Steve Pieczenik (who for the most recent books don't even write them - another guy called Jeff Rovin writes the actual novel, and his name is in small print inside the book). The "Power Plays" series is written by Jerome Preisler. The "Net Force" series is actually written by Steve Perry (though the concept was by Steve Pieczenik), who is of the "Aliens" and "Alien vs Predator" novel fame - he is not bad, but definitely not up to par with Tom Clancy.

Give me a Tom Clancy WRITTEN novel anyday. His best work are his older novels, although Rainbow 6 was good. The Bear and the Dragon is also a great novel.

Actually they are called "Tom Clancy's <insert series name", e.g. Tom Clancy's Op-Center. (yes i know it's nit-picking)

I happen to like Op-Center personally. Just reading the first one, about 3/4 through it, but I like it.

BTW to the talk above about SoAF vs PG...

RyanVerse, aka the universe of John Patrick "Jack" Ryan, the center of most of the books that Clancy himself wrote. That page has a timeline of the release of the books as well as the timeline according to the books, which is actually a different order than the publishing order.

I've read a couple of Tom Clancy's books. Particularly enjoyed "The Hunt for Red October".

I love Tom Clancy books, he's a great author. I'm looking forward to going to see The Sum of All Fears, looks like a great movie. Too bad they changed it from how it was in the book, though.
