Whats this?
I Was looking around in my board code and found some things that I found suspcious.
Informatin removed. Whats that about? How come it doesn't have a comment like the rest of the stuff. (try going to Removed. ) Aswell here are a bunch of things that seem to have unique to your vbb stuff that sends to the vbb server. The script stuff seems to work with or without that id (YOUR, id) Informatin removed. why would Vbulletin do that? |

The reason its there is to detect pirate copies of vbulletin, what it mainily does is send the url of the forums and the license code where then they check it against the database to see if it is pirated or not, they dont actually spy on your forums like steal accounts or passwords or put backdoors in the scripted, its function is to catch pirated forum users.
I had an idea on how to make something like it but harder to remove, but im not quite sure it would work, but some might not like the idea, but i understand where they come from, its a excelent forum software and offer great support for it, and they dont want people useing pirated software, my idea is having a encrypted php for example zend, thats incorated into every php and would be real hard to remove and needed for some stuff, in that file it would just send the url of the forums where it then checks it against the database and if its a pirated copy it would shut the forums down, it would cut down on pirated software if it was possible to do, but some might find it as an invasion of privacy. |

Yes it makes sence, but Im not keen on being monitored. Every time I go to my mod or admin CP they can see who does it, and when. Just that is enough for me to remove the offending code.
From the code there is no way they can grab passes. But I think people should have a voice in being monitored or not Oh, think I should put that stuff in a .txt file or something? That way ppl that are wandering around these boards with a pirated version wont know how to remove the code. |

This issue has been discussed more times than I can count. No information except for the domain name (which you are required to provide anyway) and the license number are stored. There is no way for anyone from Jelsoft to log into your Admin CP nor is there any hole for hackers to exploit.
This issue is also covered in the license. If you wish to discuss this issue further please contact john@vbulletin.com with your concerns. I am also going to remove the code from the post, for obvious reasons. |
