Duplicate content
I am planning to promote good forum posts as articles. Will Google penalize me for duplicate content if I plan to keep the original forum thread?
I experimented by promoting forum threads. I wanted the forum replies to appear as comments in cms area but the replies are missing. What am I missing? My settings: Comments: yes keep original thread: yes Move to comments forum: No All comments: Yes. Is there anything else that controls this? |

The comments option is rather limited and really doesn't work that well.
I had a similar problem but decided to opt for a manual comments forum/thread by forgetting the comments created by inherent vB and manually creating a forum dedicated to comments made from articles. Much more control and less hassle. Probably affected any SEO that may have been present but I don't really care about that. I want something that works. |

You are right. I tested vbcms some more. I gave read and download permission to a usergroup. But members in that group are able to see the edit pencil icon in their articles (their post was promoted to article).

Now this is something else that I changed.
I don't allow members to post articles, instead I will send them a PM to get their permission to promote or post as article. If granted, I will create/reproduce the article myself and may edit but certainly standardize the format to suit the theme of the site. Add their names to the article as a credit and done. This again, allows for less confusion. |

That is a good idea. Do you manually add their name as the author? It will be great if we have a plugin / widget code for an author bio box. A box that has the author's name, avatar, a short description of them, with a link to their profile and link to all the articles they have published. This will also motivate members.

I manually add the name yes, it has to be done that way..
There is this mod https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...=change+author But as I remember, it does what it does but I think the users avatar is untouched, could be wrong.. Adding a name with a link to the users profile seems to do the job. |
