DragonByte SEO add-on
Hi all,
I'm looking at his module: http://www.dragonbyte-tech.com/produ...ragonbyte-seo/ and I do not know enough about SEO to understand the real value but I was wondering if any of you had experience with this add-on and its benefits. Thank you Aureeli |

I installed it for a client. If you have Vbseo and are trying to get rid of it and want to keep existing url structure then it is great but expensive if you want updates and branding removal. If you do not have Vbseo currently then you do not need an seo mod.
Google places more emphasis on content. Things like seo friendly urls, dynamic meta tags, etc just are not important any more. Plus, if you still want seo friendly urls, Vbulletin has them built in. I will say though that Fillip and everyone else at Dbtech provide great support and write/rewrite great mods. In my opinion though it is not wise to rely on such a major third party addon. it makes things more complicated and e3xpensive and ther benefits are very limited if any these days. |

To the OP, I'd do a little bit more research before believing the above.

While there are still things that can be done to improve urls they do not require a big bulky program to do so. While they still may have some value my opinion is that the built in Vbulletin seo'd urls will work just as good as any other. More emphasis should be on your sites content then urls. |

Since about 2010 the only meta tag that Google has taken notice is the Description meta tag, Key word meta tags are only relevant to news sites.
Look at the features it has, VB has a lot of these built in, those that it hasn't can be got elsewhere on the net for free. I agree with the principle that good content will eventually get you a good rank, there is not SEO program that can do that, Once you get good content, people will start to link to you, it just takes time and hard work, there is no longer a quick fix to SEO. |

So many thousands of sites have been penalized due to "quick fixes" and seo tricks like buying high ranking link backs, etc. Things are much different now then before and things are still changing. |

I almosted bolded part of your post when I quoted it but I was actually referring to the dynamic meta tags that you said where not needed. I'd disagree with that, also the "SEO" url's can be good but more important is making sure your content is optimized and you have Canonical URL's, which for the most part is what "SEO" url's try to achieve.
Next to content and structure, I'd focus on backlinks. Quote:

I agree with the canonical url's but that is built into Vbulletin anyways. Good back links are also important but having too many can also kill your seo and enither of these seo scripts do anything for back links.
As for doing this for a decade, everything has changed enormously over the past year. We have had to unlearn many things. I am still trying to get a grip on this whole hummingbird thing and the algo changes made over the summer impacting store sites. My point though was that seof urls are not needed at all and if wanted they are right there in Vbulletin. As for dynamic meta tags, my opinion is that they do very little these days if anything in terms of getting a higher page rank. I would focus more on structured data and some of the other things related to mobile devices, etc. I would agree though that dynamic meta tags can have some value for user search but I stick with "They are not needed". Just my opinion for what ever that is worth. I've actually been studying seo for a few years as well but have really gotten involved over the past 2 years mostly. 10 years ago was about when I first started using Vbulletin having come from Wpress, Joomla, and many Amazon affiliate stores. I also had some web directories back then. Seo was very different those days. I believe it is much of a pain in the ass now. hehe I love Matt Cutt but boy is he making things hard! I'm not sure I agree with many of his changes but I do agree with what he is trying to accomplish. Anyhow, I'm not arguing with anyone or anything but just to share my opinions and to learn. |
