Please Help with removing code from heavily modified Header Template

Upgraded the site today from 3.6.8pl2 to 3.8.7pl3 successfully. Not bad for a first timer. http://www.twowheelfemales.com/forum

The AdminCP flagged the header template as incompatible. I expected this template would give me fits as it is heavily modified from the previous board owner and I know zilch about code beyond copy/paste and following instructions. I was able to compare side by side and add a few lines to make the incompatible flag disappear (first and last lines). What I want to do is remove the first purple & gray line of navigation items but I am unsure of which code I should be snipping. Reverting the file gets rid of this line but it also gets rid of the banner as well.

Suggestions??

This displays properly and does not generate issues. I am concerned that it may not be written 100% correctly. I will keep it as is for now since it is working and displaying properly.

But I am really hoping that someone will take a moment to chime in and confirm it is ok or point out where it can be cleaned up from here.
