Sudden MySQL Database Error, for no reason
Hi there,
One of my larger forums is currently experiencing something weird. Every page is now displaying a 'Database Error' message: Nothing at all was edited in FTP or the database, confirmed by all the raw stats available. Additionally, I did a database repair via WHM for the site, and it went through with all green lights. I've restarted the server, restarted MySQL, but still the site remains to have this error message. Do you happen to know what may be the cause of this? Thanks! Donny |

I got the following error message:
Database error in vBulletin : Cannot use database ********** MySQL Error : Access denied for user '*****'@'localhost' to database '******' Error Number : 1044 Request Date : Saturday, January 29th 2011 @ 09:37:13 PM Error Date : Saturday, January 29th 2011 @ 09:37:13 PM Script : ************* Referrer : IP Address : ********** Username : Classname : vB_Database MySQL Version : I have not changed config.php or modified the password in any way. I've just now changed the MySQL password and updated config.php to the new one. However, the problem persists and gives off the same error message. Very weird. Any ideas? Thanks! Donny |

I can't login to check, but I haven't touched it since sometime last year. Though an admin may have installed something that doesn't require FTP access. Do you know how I can check? Do you think this may be the cause of this problem?

maybe the host is restarting your server

Yes because the same exact thing thing happened to my VB.
In my case there was an error message that told me where the error happened. OK log into your FTP and back up all files before anything else happens And maybe wait one night? |

Thanks for the replies.
It's been 48 hours now, still no avail unfortunately. I've restarted my server to try to fix this problem, but that hasn't helped either. Thanks, Donny |

I know very little about MySQL admin, but looking up error 1044 it looks like it's a database access control issue rather than a user/password thing (i.e. user exists and password is good, but the user isn't allowed the access (privileges) it needs to do what it's trying to do).
Your error message doesn't have the part about exactly what it's trying to do (sometimes there's a file/line number) - I guess you might want to figure that out before playing around with the access control in case it's actually trying to do something it shouldn't be doing. ETA: Maybe the "cannot use database" means it was trying to do a mysql_select_db()?. You might also figure out something by googling "mysql error 1044" or something like that. |

I was able to get the site back up successfully!
Unfortunately, I'm still having trouble with the boards. Although the site is up consistantly, every couple of minutes or so it reverts back to the vBulletin Database Error page. Then it comes back around after 2-3 refreshes. It's been doing this for the entire day. Here's the error message attached to the vBulletin Database Error page: mysql_connect() [<a href='function.mysql-connect'>function.mysql-connect</a>]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) /home/*****/public_html/includes/class_core.php on line 311 Any ideas? Thanks! Donny |
