Centering the whole forum.

I have my forum width set at 975px for design reasons but the whole page aligns to the left. I have been trying for hours to center it to no avail. I have tried modifying the header and footer templates to wrap everything in a centered div, tried wrapping that in center tags, even creating a 100% width table and a centered row. No matter what I change the forum sits on the left. Can anyone help me out here?
