Default Database Back-up Issue

First off, i can make saves using my phpmyadmin no problem. However, when i use the vbulletin database backup option i get this error:
Code:
Warning: mysql_query() [function.mysql-query]: Unable to save result set in [path]/includes/class_core.php on line 408
Database Error Database error
I even tried downloading the automatic database backup mod you guys have here and nothing as well. That also creates an error. I'm not sure what's going on at all. If anyone could help that would be very much appreciated, thanks.

Kevin

You need to post the complete mysql error.

Right click and view page source if need be to get the complete error msg.

i say you add a support ticket if you are having no solutions

or

try to use mysqldumper to upload and install your database

The lost connection to the server is a mysql setting and its timing out, that is why only using mysqldump from the command line is the only reliable way to dump or import a DB backup file.

If phpmyadmin works, then use it if you dont have shell access to the server.

Do not use the dump feature in the admincp, its NEVER been reliable and IMO it shouldnt be there anyways.

He is trying to dump the db, not upload it.

One quick question. Is backing up my database with phpmyadmin the same as backing up my forum database from let's say, the admincp? If not, what are the differences?

Thanks
Kevin

thats only i mean by

if you are dumping your database use bigdump software , just search google
using phpmyadmin causes big problems , it is very problematic as it causes many timeout errors

and when you dump a database like i have which is over 500 MB , it causes huge problems
so best use bigdump , it's very easy and reliable

The only reliable method of backing up and restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. This is because backing up with a PHP script like that in the Admin CP or phpMyAdmin can result in PHP timeouts errors and an incomplete backup file. Please see the instructions here:

Backup:
http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...nce_ssh_backup

Restore:
http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...ce_ssh_restore

P.S. If you don't have shell access, some people have also reported success with these scripts:

MySQLDumper:
http://www.mysqldumper.de/en/index.php

MySQLHotxcopy:
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...t=mysqlhotcopy

Bigdump:
http://www.ozerov.de/bigdump.php

I'm using putty. Any reason when i enter the password i get this:
Code:
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
--------------- Added [DATE]1250673588[/DATE] at [TIME]1250673588[/TIME] ---------------

I got mysqldump to work. So basically, i'm just making a back up of my database installed on my server? I'm using godaddy and i just noticed Godaddy has a server side program installed to allow you to backup/restore databases. Anyone else familiar with godaddy and their services?

From the command line type this, hit return/enter and post the results:

mysql_config --socket
