Default Swine Flu ~ Is your Country doing enough to protect you??

It seems to be getting bad in the UK

Up to 65,000 people could die from the disease in Britain
More than 55,000 new cases recorded in a week
30 per cent of the population could be infected
1 in 8 workers to take time off
New National Flu Service launched to manage outbreak
Cherie Blair among those suspected to be infected with virus

In the UK things seem to be taking a back seat, with the Government claiming that everyone will be protected by March/April 2010. Thats if we're still alive

Whats your Goverment doing and is it doing Enough??

Should people buy drugs from the internet?? whats the best course of action and unlike other scares ~ Bird Flu, SARS, Aids, why should we think this is worst??

Swine flu deaths in Britain soar to 29 as 12 people die in just FOUR days

Quote:
Health officials are now preparing for a 'worst case scenario' of 65,000 deaths this year in what they fear may only be the first wave of the disease.

They believe 30 per cent of the population could be infected and expect 0.35 per cent of those people to die.
Today it was also revealed that Cherie Blair, the wife of former Liar of a prime minister Tony Blair, may have swine flu.

She pulled out of a ceremony to receive an honorary doctorate at Liverpool Cathedral today. The BBC said this was because Mrs Blair had the virus.

It came as doctors warned that patients were swamping GPs' surgeries and called for extra medics to be drafted in.

Mrs Blair was said to have felt unwell this week and to have taken Tamiflu. She has reportedly cancelled other engagements while she recuperates.

She is not believed to have passed on the virus and is expected to make a full recovery within days.

Until this afternoon, only 17people were believed to have died after contracting the deadly virus.

The UK Government announced new details today of the National Pandemic Flu Service for England, which should be up and running towards the end of next week.

This telephone and internet-based service will enable people to get a diagnosis of swine flu, obtain a unique reference number, and gain access to Tamiflu.

People will be diagnosed over the telephone or can follow a questionnaire on the internet which will give them a diagnosis.

A 'flu friend' can then obtain the antiviral for a sick person from a depot around the country using the unique reference number.

Whats Happening in Your country and do you think your Country is doing enough to protect its citizens??

feel free to Vote as always

I've attached a zip file of a PDF leaflet that the UK Goverment has made about the Swine Flu

12 people in four days is certainly high for the Swine Flu, but.. How many people have died from Cancer? HIV? Prescription Drugs? Alcohol? etc in that same four days?

Swine flu kills 25 people and everyone wants to run out and buy masks. Millions die from HIV and no one wants to wear a condom. Think about it.

I'm not saying this thing isn't a threat.. if it can be lethal, it is threatening, right? Right. But come on.. I am so sick of hearing about it. The media fear mongering is so ridiculous. I don't need to rush out and pay thousands of dollars to my terrifying health care system. I don't need to put myself into debt over something significantly less lethal than standard influenza (which I've survived many times in my life).

"Up to 65,000 people could die" -- How? Because out of the thousands of people who have been diagnosed with it, a measly percentage of them have passed away? It's tragic, yes, but it doesn't need to be in the news sixty times a day. We have other things that need to be addressed, like Cap and Trade, our falling economy and unemployment rates, etc. But no, I have to hear about the 30th person to get Swine Flu, and the second person to have died from it (in my local state only).. Come on!!

Edit: So in the poll, where's the option for, "They're doing way TOO much, just stop already."?

So true tyler, i agree with you 100%

Apparently i've only just sourced that in the UK in an average year 20,000 people die of just the normal flu.

The majority of these are the elderly, So do you think we're worrying, when we don't need to??

As you say millions of people around the world die of cancer every year, but can that be prevented, Do the drugs companies which rake in millions in treatment drugs, know of a cure for cancer but won't tell as they will lose billions in the process??

Like the Guy who invents a car which runs on water, the idea & copyright is bought for a few million by the oil companies and then shelved.

Could the same thing be happening with Human Life??

Certainly makes you wonder

I believe there's cause for concern. I mean, there is no denying it .. people are dying from H1N1. I just don't think the concern needs to be spread around more than the virus itself. This is how I imagine the media would react if there were a zombie outbreak.. not a low lethal virus. However, I am thankful that we are all now informed of a potentially deadly virus outbreak.. so concern has it's place, but this has just gone completely overboard.

I wouldn't put it past them, to be honest. I'm not talking doctors or nurses.. more so the politics behind it all. I think Health Care is corrupt, and they only care about one thing. Money. Money IS life, and actual life is meaningless.. Ah, the mindset of greed, right?

Absolutely ridiculous. It's monopoly in its purest form. It's corruption and it's wrong. They won't get away with this stuff forever, one day we're all going to fight back, and hard. It's a shame that it will come to that to get anything logical on the right track though, isn't it?

And I could go all night too. There's just so much about the way we are all forced to live that I don't agree with. There's just so much that irks me and makes me think, "What on earth can these people be thinking?!".. So much to the point where something is obviously wrong in our world.. This thread could go way off topic at the snap of a finger..

But I appreciate it Gerry. If we're ever somehow in the same vicinity as each other, I may take you up on that beer offer.

The Netherlands will buy 34.000.000 vaccins, two for each Dutchman. Will be used in october

People already infected get tamiflu. Nobody died here yet due to the disease, so it doesn't get much attention yet.

Normal flue will kill more people than swine flue at any time.

You might as well be worried about SARS. It sells a lot of newspapers though.

The Dutch media is making a big fuss about it, so i do not understand EWGF's remark.
