Ranks problem/double installation
Hi,
I've been searching and reading on the forum on and off over the last few hours but I remain unable to solve my problem. I've tried every permutation I can think of but no matter where I put my custom rank graphics the rank file path is always wrong according to the user rank manager. I may have compounded the problem in that I appear to have installed vbulletin to /public_html/forum and also to /www/forum but even by putting my rank graphics into every possible /images/ranks folder available I end up with the same result of 'invalid File Path Specified'. I can make new folders and put the graphics in there before pointing the user rank manager at the location but it makes no difference. I performed a test by renaming and replacing the 'vbulletin' graphic on the forum with one of my own. This worked perfectly and enabled me to see which of the forum installations was being read but as I said, the result of placing my rank graphics into the images/ranks or indeed any other folder within that installation was the same: 'invalid File Path Specified'... Does having a double installation of vbulletin affect my security at all? If I rename the name of either of the forum folders my forum dies until I enter the correct name so they seem to be interacting with each other. I'd really appreciate some help. |

Can you give us an example of what you are entering in the file path that is resulting in the invalid path error?

Thanks for your reply Lynne. I'll get the information together and will post it here.
--------------- Added [DATE]1244309430[/DATE] at [TIME]1244309430[/TIME] --------------- Okay Lynne, I installed the relevant gif files in the following locations: /public_html/forum/images /public_html/forum/images/ranks /www/forum/images/ranks /www/images/ranks All done in the hope that I would eventually have them in the right place for the 'add user rank' process. When I update user titles and ranks it appears to see the correct number of 28 equating to four installations of seven files. Well I assume that's what it is seeing... Okay, 'add user rank' defaults to images/ so I then go through the process of trying each of the folders into which I previously placed the gif files: images/ranks/abcd.gif forum/images/abcd.gif forum/images/abcd.gif images/ranks/abcd.gif etc etc etc. Regardless of which path I use the error is always the same. I can't even use the ftp programme to give me an exact path because it obviously prefixes the url with ftp. Could this problem with the ranks have something to do with the fact that I seem to have a double installation of vbulletin? I'm very new to this but I hope I'm able to answer your questions. |

www and public_html are usually the same thing, so I don't think you have a double installation.
Can you put those paths in your browser and see the rank images? |

Just tried and http://www.mydomain.com/forum/images/ranks/abcd.gif gives me 'The requested .... was not found on this server' and a 404
I can point my browser at any other gif (those which are part of the normal vbulletin installation) and they display but when I try it on one of my own they can't be found on the server. I can see a pattern developing here of course but the file names and locations of my gif files appear to be perfectly okay. --------------- Added [DATE]1244313814[/DATE] at [TIME]1244313814[/TIME] --------------- I renamed all files to 1.gif, 2.gif etc and now they work. Bizarre.... |
