What template changes what?
Hi Guys,
Been a long time vB user and have always done upgrades pretty much blind, when reverting templates it's always been a bit of hit and miss to see whether it works however what I'm wanting to know is if I edit a template how do I know where it's going to change on the site? Perhaps not the clearest way so far but let me see if I can explain a little further. The footer for instance covers right down the bottom, what do others cover ie FORUMDISPLAY, postbit, SHOWTHREAD etc? Obviously that isn't all of them but I'm wanting to get the bigger picture so I can understand it a little more as it's only a matter of time before something goes pear shaped. I am sure I found a site a while back, can't remember whether it was here it not which basically said if you changed the header for instance all of this content can be changed. At present I use something like examdiff to see the visual differences between what I had previously before the upgrade and then grab the reverted file and put in what I believe is required. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please Thanks Cheers |

The only thing I can think of is to do a search in the files for the template name and look for where it is evaled. That should give you a good idea of where it is used.
It is very easy to take a look at a page and then see what templates are used in it (so, kinda the opposite of what you are saying). Just do this - vboptions > General Settings > Add Template Name in HTML Comments > set to Yes . Then go back to your page and view the source code and you will see the name of the template called around your part of the code. Sometimes the template is the one mentioned at the very top of the page source. |

Thanks for that Lynne, wasn't what I was after but that will do just nicely and perhaps even learn a little more along the way.
Thanks again! |
