Re-Installing Forum
I am currently having 3.7.4 with around 3000 users and an active forum. At the same time I also have lots of mods and hacks installed from my initial version of 3.6.8, and upgraded till this version.
I had recently downloaded 3.8.2 version, and thinking of doing a fresh installation of my forum with this new version and installing only the required mods and hacks. I can take the backup of the MySQL database from my site control panel. What is the best possible way to install the forum as fresh in the same domain and then export my database to the new installation. The users should not find any difficulty in accessing their threads or posts after I bring bring the database to the new version. Can I have the same database name also in my new VBulletin installation ? If everything works fine, I will be deleting my old installation of vb forum. Expert advise is required on this. Hope to get reply on this. Thanks |

the best option you have is to uninstall existing hacks from your actual version, making sure what you have in hands is working "right now"... then you upgrade your version...
if the modifications are more from the templates, you will simply have to create a new theme. if the modifications are more from the files, deleting them before updating will mminimize your need to modify your site after the update. re-installing the forum will always make trouble if you don't know all the consequences at first... |
