Default Spammers every single day

I feel like this cannot be right. I get at minimum something like 5-7 spammers/illegitimate accounts registering on my forum daily, it is Insane. The forum isnt huge by any means, probably 60 truly active posters and been around for 3 months.

i have to approve all regs so they dont get to post. But christ, is there ANYTHING i can do to prevent this? i have a big email block list and it never hinders anything...what could cause this influx at all times?

You could meaby try editing the Human Vitrification in the Admin CP to spelling your site backwards , i don't think Spam 'bots' can read it

But if its real people you could get proxy monitoring and block their IP address

Just some ideas

I had the same problem until I added an anti-spam question to be answered at registration. Now I see in WOL multiple guests registering but most don't complete the registration process because spambots are blocked by that question.

My anti-spam question is cricket-related because my forum is for cricket followers so applicants are expected to have some cricket knowledge.
Quote:
LBW is one way a batsman can be dismissed. LBW stands for Leg Before W.... Enter the correct word beginning with W.
To create an anti-spam question:
1. In admincp click Add New User Profile Field
2. In Profile Field Type select Single-Line Text Box from dropdown list.
3. Fill out the form including your anti-spam question in the Description field.
4. In Field Required select Yes, at registration and profile updating from dropdown list.
5. In Field Editable by User select Only at registration from dropdown list.
6. In Which page displays this option? select Edit Profile from dropdown list.
7. In Regular Expression type the answer to your anti-spam question. I'm not sure if this is case sensitive? For example, if you type in lower-case and the applicant types in upper-case does the registration process continue?

Other options should be self-explanatory.

I use this mod https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...istration+bots ,this with recaptcha mean I see at most 1 spammer manually registering in maybe 2 months.

The bots have been trying to enter my forum on mass for the last 6 weeks, up to 900 (yes 900) registration attempts per day and they all fail. I am seeing 30+ continous connections every few minutes ,each group of IP's try memberlist,usercp,register,index..... over and over then the IP's change and it starts again. PaulM's Track the guests mod is a useful tool for watching this garbage.

Somewhat a related question:

I'm a new admin.

Is there a way to see how many FAILED registration attempts I'm getting... to see if either a) I'm not getting any attempts or b) my safeguards are actually working?

Does that make sense? I want to see if I'm actually doing something RIGHT! LOL

I thought perhaps there is a way to check this in the admincp.

Thanks!
