Categories (or labels) of members ?

I know that one can have different categories of members according to number of posts and according to permissions. I would like to have different categories according to interests or occupations. For example, I would like to have a user choose, upon registration, from among "painter," "sculptor," "dancer" and "musician." Can I do that and, if so, how?

(I would like the category to show under the member's name when the member posts in a thread.)
