custom message
hello...im trying to combat spammers..and I created another Registered Users usergroup that members will be promoted into once they have atleast 5 posts...
If they have under 5 posts, they'll still be in the initial Registered Users usergroup where they cannot PM , cannot email others , and cannot post links in their sigs. The only thing is, it sucks for innocent new members that are trying to PM someone..or post a sig. How can I make it so that people in that initial usergroup get a Notice when they try to PM someone ? Example : "You cannot PM others until you have atleast 5 credible posts under your belt". Notice ONLY shows when they click on the PM link. There's noway to specifically do it in the Notices manager... plus I dont want innocent members seeing that notice...when they havent done anything wrong. I ONLY want them to see it once they try to PM or post a link in their sig. I saw other sites that were able to do this.. any ideas ? |

Spammers tend to 'Spam' anywhere they can!
A Good idea would be to allow them access to only 1 forum & setup an autoreply mod for threads there that states something like "Please reply with your name/D.O.B., Location" etc etc REAL members will reply, spammers wont For example: Everyone can only post a thread in say introductions. The auto reply mod will reply saying "Welcome To www.myforum.com Please enter your date of birth to gain access" or something like that Once they reply, then they get promoted to a usergroup that gives them access to the rest of the forum Failing that, you could always Moderate new members below a certain post count |

if its too much of a hassle, they'll go elsewhere. A made a new usergroup where the Noobs get thrown into...how do I prevent those Noobs from posting links in their posts ? I didnt notice any usergroup permissions to prevent "posting links in posts". |

You will find that most spammers use proxy servers so I would recommend something like https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...ighlight=Proxy Something that I have resorted too is checking individual IP with something like http://whatismyipaddress.com/. I know that is real tedious but I have found out once the Proxy ip hack is installed, the amount of spammers decreased substantially.
Hope that helped |

If its a forum worth going to, they wont go elsewhere!
Unless a new modification has been made recently, theres no way of not allowing links in posts, there is in profile, signature etc etc, but not posts. To stop links in posts = Thats what moderators are for |

yea, but newer versions of vBulletin have 'TypePad Anti-Spam Service' available to turn on for free in vBulletin Options . Quote:
That usergroup I made is SPECIFICALLY for spammers...they get promoted to the good usergroup once they have 5 or more good posts. vbulletin should of enabled this years ago....now I have to look around for another mod JUST to prevent members from posting links in posts per usergroup. --------------- Added [DATE]1235668883[/DATE] at [TIME]1235668883[/TIME] --------------- To help me keep my sanity, could someone just point me in the right direction for a small mod that gives a group permission just to disable links in posts ? |
