admincp or text..?
I was thinking about coding my own board software, and I was wondering what you guys like more for administrators...
Which one would you guys prefer more? I'm guessing the AdminCP one, but I thought the second might be a bit different and original. |

AdminCP is good because it has everything imaginable. But I see where you're coming from with the 'quick edit' links, AJAX style, like you can double click thread title and edit it, you could do the same for a forum title or username. I would like both.

and links would start to get REALLY cluttered

Not really cluttered. There would only be one beside some categories, or yeah, double click category, and edit it.
For usernames, I meant like that dropdown box, the link could be in there somewhere, when you click on someones name. Or once again, double click, edit. What do you guys think? |

Man, Winter.. you sure do brainstorm a huge amount of ideas, don't you?
It depends on what your overall goal is with the thing. Do you want extremely stripped down and simple? Then maybe go with an AJAX admin inline editing interface with one page for settings, and another for category management.. or something. Something as large as vBulletin would make sense to have an external admin interface.. however, single handedly creating something like vBulletin is extremely unlikely. |

I would go with the admincp link
I think they would be cluttered as well, one link is fine with me |

Late to the decision, but when I'm browsing the forums I prefer to be browsing the forums, not navigating a minefield of extra links that get in the way of me enjoying myself.
