Anyone want to take the time to really help a NOOB

I feel VERY dumb here, but I love my board, I was a "minor" admin, then the girl left and gave me controls.
I have NO CLUE what I am doing and need someone to help me!!

I want to add templates but have no clue how.
This will sound dumb, but she didn't give me server info. Is this something I Need. OR, well I just need someone to walk me through a lot.
I hope someone wants to take the time to help me.

You want to add your own custom templates, thats all right ?

No you don't need any server info for that. If you're the admin, simply login to admincp->Styles and Templates->Style Manager->Expand Dropdown of your style->Add new template

As Veenu said, you don't need server access to simply change/add a template, however if she just left you the board, you will want server access in order to upgrade the site (when needed), restore a database (in case something happens), or even install some modifications.

ok yeah for example, I would like a halloween template, but we have mods on it, (like the vb credits and such) how do I add that stuf (the links) to the new template.

Ok so upgrading the site, it says I need to go from 3.3.0 to 3.3.7 (i believe) I need the server for that?

You won't be able to install a style without server access. Most styles come with a bunch of images and you need to have server access in order to upload those to your site.

As for the templates and adding in new stuff for mods, you should download the mod and read the install instructions. Usually there is a text file that outlines all the template edits you will need to do.

What I do is have a main Layout style (not available to public) and then under that, I have several styles where there are only Main CSS edits or minor template edits. That way I can do all template edits in Layout and the edits are inherited by all the child styles.

What server/company are you using? When you access the panel through that company you need to figure out ftp information. That is how you will upload the files you need to in the correct areas.

ok she told me to find my own ftp, suggested smart ftp

Do you not have Cpanel???, I guess this would be far the easiest to use when uploading files? With Styles you need to upload the images into the images directory of the style folder.

Many years ago i was uploading the images into the default style images and not the new style image folder, oftened wondered why my templates never came out good.

Your best bet would be getting someone that can help you from your board?? Someone that you can trust, with Server experiance, perhaps now the time to offer a super mod position, therefore helping you out also?

yeah that really isn't an option, my board is a very small board (VERY SMALL) of just moms, none of whom know this stuff

i am sure i can figure it out, i just need to find the time, so that i why i thought i would check for any adivce here first
