The only reliable method of backing up and restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. This is because backing up with a PHP script like that in the Admin CP or phpMyAdmin can result in PHP timeouts errors and an incomplete backup file. Please see the instructions here:
Backup: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...nce_ssh_backup Restore: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...ce_ssh_restore P.S. If you don't have shell access, some people have also reported success with these scripts: MySQLDumper: http://www.mysqldumper.de/en/index.php MySQLHotxcopy: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...t=mysqlhotcopy Bigdump: http://www.ozerov.de/bigdump.php |

If you take a backup of your WHOLE mysql database you should be fine, make sure everything is backupped and make backups of backups
After that, import that database in MySql (with the same name as the old one) And edit config.php(.new) ~Ulti ~Edit, Marco he doesn't have SSH |

My post has instructions for both users with and without shell access.

using cpanel you can just use the backup feature within the cpanel, create a backup, then give the tarball to your new host and tell them to place it in /root then run /scripts/restorepkg <accountname>

Why this long, unreliable way ?
Just setup a Master <- -> Master Replicatation, moving the files to the other host, bring it up and update the DNS entries. Until every "client" has the new DNS records both boards run at the same time doing DB synchronization without any downtime. No need to shutdown the board anytime - even possible with Cpanel setting up TCP connections, allowing the new Server only, a Replication User and vise versa at the new host. Some days later the Replication can be stopped when the DNS entries are updated. Quite easy: Copy the files without any DB dump / restore Setup SQL Replication and the other things |
