How do I restore *exactly*?
Hey
I know how to backup and restore the database via SSH. That is all I know though. Do I simply copy the contents from one server (of my "forum" folder/directory) and copy it to a new place and restore the database and it should work? I haven't seen any step by step tutorials from start to finish on how to do this. Any way someone can help please? (spare me the flaming!) |

I think you're probably spot on. Make sure the config.php file is still correct after the transfer.

This is probably a dumb question, but what is SSH and Telnet? And how do you use it? I'm not real comfortable with the idea of trying to move my database to a new server until I completely understand how to do it. Any one know of a step by step plan for a newby?
Thanks!! |

SSH/Telnet is a commandline interface to your server. You can ask your host if this is available on your server.
General info in the manual: Moving Servers The only reliable method of backing up and restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. This is because backing up with a PHP script like that in the Admin CP or phpMyAdmin can result in PHP timeouts errors and an incomplete backup file. Please see the instructions here: Backup: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...nce_ssh_backup Restore: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/m...ce_ssh_restore P.S. If you don't have shell access, some people have also reported success with these scripts: MySQLDumper: http://www.mysqldumper.de/en/index.php MySQLHotxcopy: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...t=mysqlhotcopy Bigdump: http://www.ozerov.de/bigdump.php |
