3.7 How to return # of user photos?

I'm trying to figure out how to get the number of photo's a user has.

I think this will require a query as I can't find a variable already made that does this. I'm not familiar enough with vB's DB to jump right into this but I will take my time with it if this thread doesn't spark any interest.

My end result is to create a postbit field: My Photos (#). All I need is #

I've been poking around in albums.php and a few of the related templates. If I discover anything I'll post it up... I'm kind of hoping someone may have already figured this out or knows it off the top of their head.

PS: If this isn't feasible I'd simply like to figure out a way to return if a user has photo's or not.
